Decidious Flowering Bushes

Spice Bushes

Lush, aromatic spice bushes (Calycanthus) create desirable reddish flowers on clump-forming shrubs. Spice bushes are suitable for Sunset’s Environment Zones 4 through 9 and 14 through 24. Spice bush (C. occidentalis) is a California native. Fragrant bright-green leaves, reddish brown spring flowers and autumn foliage enhance the wellformed, 12-foot-large shrub. Carolina allspice (C. florididus) is a stiff-branching, suckering shrub to 10-feet tall and at least as broad. Glossy, dark green leaves body richly aromatic -scented flowers, which may also develop in Sunset Climate Zone 3.
