Standard Bedding Size Dimensions

Although different businesses around the world manufacture blankets, sheets and comforters, they all conform to the same dimensions for the standard sizes of mattresses sold in the USA. Knowing the correct measurements for beds in the marketplace simplifies purchasing or making the appropriate bedding.

Crib

Designed to comfortably and safely sleep a growing infant without supplying too much room for motion, the conventional crib mattress is 27 1/2 inches wide by 52 inches in length.

Single Occupancy

A twin mattress, also referred to as a single, is created for a person sleeping alone. Measuring 38 inches wide by 74 inches in length, a twin size works well for smaller chambers, trundles and bunk beds. Twin XL mattresses, often employed for college bunk beds, are 79 inches long. Full beds were initially made for couples sleeping together, but today they’re largely employed by people. The identical span as a twin mattress — 74 inches — a full mattress is 54 inches wide, giving additional space, but typically not enough room for two people to sleep .

Double Occupancy

Larger than a full bed in length and width, a queen mattress is 60 inches wide by 80 inches long and will accommodate two adults fairly comfortably. Even bigger, the 76-inch-wide by 80-inch-long king mattress provides ample room for two adults. As the lightest mattress easily available on the market — though slightly smaller in diameter than the standard king mattress — a California king’s dimensions are 72 inches wide by 84 inches in length.
